Loss of products through the manufacturing cycle is frustrating and costly. Managing the loss and seeking solutions often requires a trusted partner.
So was the case with a Texas manufacturer of ceramic tubes. The tubes are formed and require care while placing and transporting them to a two step high heat oven for heating and baking.
The plant manager called Southern Representatives asking for a visitation. Southern contacted a local Material Handling Dealer and made a joint solution-driven call.
Concerns were for a cart that the tubes could be placed on a fixed rack and carefully pushed into the high heat operation and then once completed a train is formed and pulled out by a lift truck. The cart needed to be movable as a cart and then towable, and the cart needed to withstand the long baking time.
Partnering with Mid States the Southern Representatives team collaborated with the end user, dealer and the manufacturer to gain all the parameters and offer a solution for the welded rack, cart, towing structure and the heat.
A call was held to share a proof of concept that led to a prototype. After use and added modifications the end user signed off and placed, with the dealer, the first order.
The plant manager stated the ease and timely response along with sharing of knowledge was the key in making it possible.
The new carts dropped the loss of product and eliminated a mix of inefficient carts and trailers,
Resulting in increased profits and cycle time.
